I have such happy & fond memories of Mr & Mrs White while at Telopea. Mr White Baptised me 14 November 1971 & l still have my JB Philips Bible. My mum was not a church person but she too appreciated Mr White’s kindness he showed. Throughout my nearly 63 yrs l have from time to time thought of the White Family.
Thank you for being apart of my life.

Brian was very influential in my teen years which were spent at the Telopea church. His enthusiasm for teaching the word and his focus on evangelism was infectious. The youth group came alive spiritually, socially and often there was music as Brian had everyone chorusing to the accompaniment of his ukelele! Many local young people became attached to the church and a quite a number came to the Lord. Our family on a number of occasions minded the boys so that Brian and Joan could have a break. They were great days and I thank God for working in and through Brian and Joan to bring life and love to those years of ministry at Telopea. Brian will be greatly missed. Sending love to the whole family at this time.

To Joan and the entire White family.
It’s with much love we remember Brian as minister at the Dandenong Church of Christ. The influence of his life and ministry years can never be under estimated. From wonderful sermon and worship direction, to significant programs such as the Hillsongs week training in Sydney, ALPHA programs and KYB team leadership. We will always remember the love shown to us as a new family with the birth of our daughter, the amazing leadership at Church Board level in the Outreach and Family ministries, and the gifting of allowing those he ministered with to develop in faith and vision.
May God give to you peace and the abiding assurance that he will always be remembered and loved.
Blessings to you all,
Bronwyn, John and Micaela Vaughan

Lionel and I met Brian and Joan and family in 1974, when Lionel was appointed a lecturer at the Bible College of SA in Victor Harbor. Their friend, Tom Ede, suggested we look them up and Brian and Joan graciously welcomed us into their home whenever we visited their church in Hawthorn, Adelaide. They became such good friends that they even minded our then 2-year-old daughter, Tina, for three weeks in 1979 while I joined Lionel during his time studying in the USA–what a commitment! We always valued Brian’s warm, friendly manner and positive attitude, both then and later in Sydney, and also his belief in us in ministry and other areas. My first short story ever published came about through knowing Brian, which was a significant factor in my becoming the writer I am today. So we join with you all in giving thanks for Brian and pray God’s comfort will be very real to you all in the coming days.

Brian has always been in my memory from an 11 year old when I met him at Telopea Church of Christ. I am 66 now. He was my first mentor who showed faith and trust in me in my early teens when life was a struggle. He also tutored me on a Monday aftrrnoon at the Manse when I was struggling with my school work. I came from a family where there was serious and ongoing DV. Brian baptised me along with David ( who is undertaking Brian’s funeral service) Ratten, his brother Paul and Gary Lynch. Brian also married my wife and I many years after we left Telopea and Brian was at Sutherland. We got married back at Telopea and many attendees were old Telopea church people who reaquainted themselves with Brian. Brian, or Barny as we calked him, was a wonderful, caring human being who I owe so much too. In closing I remember Joan very well and the fantastic support she gave Brian. I still remember the names of Brian’s children 50 years on. Brett, Scott and Dale. I also remember Brian’s grey holden car and even the number plate EOP901. That’s the esteem I held Brian in. Rest in peace with your saviour Brian.

I didn’t know Brian well, but I know Brett and I know Kingsway Community Church, and I know that neither would be who or what they are today without Brian’s impact. That is legacy. Brian planted trees under whose shade he will not get to sit. That is faith. Well done, good and faithful servant.

Tucked away in my mind, close to the surface, there is a ‘Whitey File’ containing a myriad of memories dating back to early 1959 when we found ourselves roommates at the College of the Bible, Glen Iris, Victoria. We remained roommates for the next four years until we went our separate ways at the end of 1962. Thereafter, for the next 58 years we were able to pick up an earned friendship in a heartbeat whenever our paths crossed. In late 2018 Whitey, Joan, Jenny and I had a final lunch together, a last supper, before I left Victoria to live in Adelaide: we all knew that, as a foursome, it would be the last time. Joan, during your courtship with Brian I came to see that your partnership was made in heaven for the benefit of countless people and I have admired you both from near and far through all those years. That’s why Jenny and I, as far as we are able, share your sadness and separation in full knowledge that all will be well. In life and in death you are both enveloped in the Everlasting Arms along with your loving family. ‘Love knows not its own depth until the hour of separation ‘.

Brian was a great influence in my life and call to ministry. He was such a faithful minister of the Gospel and I will forever cherish the opportunity he gave to me to serve with him at Caringbah in NSW. My time ministering with Brian and later on his son Brett in Sydney has been the most exciting and wonderful times I have experienced in ministry and they provided me with treasured memories I will never forget.

Brian was my favourite minister of all time. I grew so much under his leadership/ministry and was fortunate in that he came back to do an Interim ministry. Any minister following after him, had big shoes to fill and they never did.
Brian had a beautiful servant heart and I know he is now with God in the special place prepared for him.
My sympathies and love go to Joan and family.

Brian and I first met when he was involved in helping my church through a serious breach of ethics in 1996/97. He then went on to mentor me for some years after that. He was gentle, kind, honest, loving and deeply pastoral. He was an encourager. He will be deeply missed. He was one of the giants – not just in ministry, but as a person. His influence on me was profound and deeply appreciated.

I first met Brian when I was serving the Lord with Bible Study Fellowship and Brian was the minister at Dandenong Church of Christ. Brian always had a word of encouragement for the ladies at BSF to stay strong in the study of God’s Word. It was a delight to see Brian and Joan join our church at Pakenham Baptist and once again to hear Brian faithfully preach God’s Word and continue to be a “Barnabas” to Don and me and to so many of us at PBC.

From the whole family that shared their relationship with their dad, grandad and friends there was a clear message of his Godly character and his servant heart. I remember Uncle Brian taking us for a spin in his car in Arrarat. Showing my brother and myself his mad rally driving skills.

Lots of memories of Brian, including Brian and Joan asking if I would like to come over from Tasmania to Melbourne to stay with them in Bayswater for a couple of weeks. This encouragement and gentle push, changed my life. I stayed in Melbourne and am still here.

Brian baptized me at Ringwood Church Of Christ in the late 80s – Early 90s.
I met my lovely wife here and Brian married Kym and myself at Church Of Christ Glen Waveley in October 1994.

Truly a man after the heart of God. Will miss you Brian, you have been an amazing influence on many people including me, thankyou.

Under his ministry at Dandenong Church of Christ Brian taught us the power of the Holy Spirit (wow), he was an encourager, a genuine man and brilliant teacher/preacher. I, Shirley, thank Brian for building me up when I was down. His compassion will always stay with me. We remember Brian and his ‘Coffee Ministry’ as we called it. Condolences to Joan, Dale & Wendy, Brett & Jenny, Ellie & Lisa.
Brian was the minister of the church when I was in my formative years. He also accepted Carmel and I as part of his family, through Wendy. I remember him as as wise, caring, kind and passionate and a real person. I remember his laugh, and he laughed often. As Carmel said he married us, and helped us in what was a difficult time as a well as a wonderful one.
As we heard in the funeral service His legacy lives on through his children and grandchildren, those who worked with him and ministry and those he lead.
Thank you Brian for the impact you had in my life.
