Dear John, So sorry I was not in time to be with you. There are no words to express how much I will miss you. Precious memories of happy times shared will remain with me always. Sending my thoughts and love to Gail, Tim, Caroline, Simon and all the family.
Lots and lots of love to you from your ‘little sister’ Pat and from the Hollisey Family xxxx

Dear uncle John. Fond memories of you and the families together in Rochester will always stay with me. All of us chasing Simons lost kite around the city after it flew away, everyone sitting round the table nibbling frogs legs (mind blowing as an 8 year old) and seeing all your wonderful steam trains & niknaks in the garage. I love mum recalling stories from your childhood together, you sounded like a blast and would’ve been great to have known you better! Will proudly tell Robyn, Spencer and my new daughter (due April) all about you. Gail, Tim, Caroline, Simon and your families, our thoughts and love are with you. Rest in peace uncle John x

My deepest sympathies to Gail, Tim, Caroline and Simon. I am truly sorry I can’t be with you today in person, but I’m sitting here thinking of you all.

John made me feel so very much part of the Rice family and I have extremely fond memories of him including showing off his garage and clocks to me in Rochester, wandering around the caves of Poole’s Cavern, his quirky penguin tie he wore to Simon and I’s wedding, him fixing Simon’s button hole is one of my favourite photos, alongside him sitting on a bench chatting to my dad, eating a picnic and pieces of Ann’s cake on a picnic bench in the middle of winter after our trip on Puffing Billy, and all standing around in the kitchen freezing to death after being out of the house all day to see the penguins and waiting for the electric blankets to warm up the beds.

Deep peace of the running wave to you
Deep peace of the flowing air to you
Deep peace of the quiet earth to you
Deep peace of the shining stars to you
Deep peace of the gentle night to you.

All my love
Mairi
