John was a true Gentleman and very good company on the golf course and in the bar or restaurant afterwards He was very fond of the food served at Settlers Run. He also came to Golf trips and although he was older in years, he was young at heart and everyone very much enjoyed being in his company. He will be remembered and sadly missed.

John was a dear friend to Marlene and myself. We shared many conversations about his beloved Carlton football club and his days of umpiring. John joined us on our trips to Queensland and l recall after looking his car and noting the number of ancient road maps l was able to teach him how to use his GPS which he suggested didn’t work.
Rest in peace lovely man

My deepest sympathy to each and every one of the Hinton family. John and Norma were both lovely parents in law to me when I was officially part of the family in the 1980s. John was always funny and sweet. I used to call him John Harry Hector and he always chuckled at that. Thinking of you all at this very sad time and sending love. Sorry I can’t be there in person but I will join online.

I was lucky enough to be befriended by John on the practice fairway as a fellow struggling could have been champion golfer. This led to many drinks and games and discussions and a golf trip which will remain with me forever. I am a better person for having had this brief association with John. .

Uncle John so sorry I couldn’t be there today from Sydney to farewell you.

To all the family our deepest condolences on this day. It was a lovely service and such wonderful words from everybody.

I too hope for a Carlton flag as we shared a love of the mighty Blues.

You will be missed by all.

Love from Danny Hinton and family.

Our sincere sympathy to you all. We remember John with much fondness, a good friend for nearly 59 years, we remember all the happy times we had with both John and Norma, dinners, jazz concerts and live shows. We watched you all grow up and remember most of you as babies. Love to you all.
